We took the Donevan’s family photos at Cherry Beach in Toronto. I have been taking photos of Brandon + Zurry for years now, starting with their engagement photos, wedding, and eventually, the addition of their two girls. It’s a beautiful part of my job, seeing people grow from a cute couple into their own little family. Toronto is full of beautiful beaches and great locations for photoshoots. Cherry Beach also has an epic dog park, I haven’t got a chance to take our guy Archie yet, but I know he would love it.
Audrey is just a few months older than Eve, and I just adore little girls, they are so sweet.
I have to say that a maxi dress is always an excellent wardrobe choice for a photoshoot, if you unsure of what to wear. They are versatile and feminine and they are also wonderful for maternity sessions, you can reveal or hide as much of your bump as you want throughout the session.
I really love family photos more and more now that I have a daughter of my own, it’s hard to believe Eve will be 2 this November! She is growing up so fast, and it’s amazing to see, but I also want it to slow down a little. I know everyone says that, but I am starting to understand it now when I look at photos where she was much smaller.
I love this photo of Brendan swinging Audrey around, just the best parts of being a kid are having your dad spin you and throw you around. My dad was so playful and fun, and he is still that way with Eve now, and she just loves it so much too.
I was so excited to shoot this Niagara Falls elopement (technically a vow renewal) as soon as Kathy emailed me. As a devoted lover of “The Office” I jumped at the chance to shoot a Niagara vow renewal under the falls – Jim + Pam forever. ❤️ I love The Office, it’s a soothing balm for all of life’s difficult times, sometimes I just want to watch it when I’m feeling stressed out, even though I’ve watched every episode a billion times.
The mist was so beautiful, we were on the Hornblower Cruise Lines and I had a the best time shooting the water falling down on Kathy, Matt and their two kids. The ceremony was relatively dry and after their kiss we approached the falls, the water was pouring down and they were having such a great time celebrating as a family. Very touching. I was under a garbage bag which I had taped very firmly around my lens on one of the HOTTEST days this summer. It was sweltering under that garbage bag, but totally worth it. After the falls my lens was just covered with water and I could barely see what I was shooting, but the solution worked for all the important moments. This was a really fun adventure. The less fun adventure came after with completely blowing out my tire while being stuck in a huge traffic jam in the Niagara region on the 407.
The crazy life of a wedding photographer, you know?
I would totally do this again in a heartbeat, I love all elopements/small quickly planned weddings, if you’re eloping reach out, I have special pricing for small weddings and elopements.
Matt & Kathy are from the states actually and made the drive up to Canada to celebrate being married 5 years, their plan is to renew their vows every 5 years. They are wedding photographers too, and it’s always a huge compliment when other photographers choose you to do their photos.
Andrea + Anthony’s Adamson Estate wedding photos were lovely, they had their ceremony and reception at the Columbus Event Centre. Andrea wore this incredible Monique Lhuillier dress and she looked stunning in it. I especially loved Andrea’s hair and makeup. I will blog more of this wedding later when I catch up, but it was a big wedding, full of hilarious entertaining greek traditions and a great party.
Adamson Estate is a great location for wedding photos if you are in the Mississauga area for your wedding. I usually recommend people find photo locations near everything else they are doing, the last thing you want to do on your wedding day is sit in traffic or commute all over the place. It takes up so much time and you don’t enjoy your day as much. There are photo gems all over the place, I know a lot of them at this point, so just ask me when we’re doing your planning and I can make some suggestions.
I actually shot at the Columbus Event Centre and Adamson Estate way back at the beginning of my wedding career, and it’s so neat to go back and see how my eye has developed. What felt like a blank landscape to me before, is now a series of perfect vignettes for portraits. I love to go to new places and see opportunities for portraits, new things I never noticed, and of course seasons and time of day are huge factors as well. This photo was taken midday – when the sun in high with the wonderful help of some shade. If you’re going to do your photos in the middle of the day, just make sure we have a place to hide from the sun and then there’s nothing to worry about. It gives a different look than the evening golden hour portraits, and I personally really like it.
These Dundurn Castle wedding photos are a few images from the Jane Austen inspiration shoot I did a few weeks ago. I love working with incredibly talented vendors to create something so beautiful. I will be able to share more later. Flowers by Bloom & Co. – hair & makeup by Glow Beauty – Styling and design by Vivian Lyttle Events – dress by Maureen Patricia Bridal – more details and vendors to follow. I suggest you check out all these amazing local vendors yourself, most of them are from the Hamilton/Niagara Region.
Dundurn Castle is a perfect spot for wedding photos, it has a magnificent lawn and row of trees that face the lake. The castle itself has beautiful architecture, I have shot here a few times and there are different elements to the property which work well for various wedding styles. The last time I was here was for an Art Gallery of Hamilton wedding, which was beautiful, another fav venue.
We shot this shoot in the spring, it was barely warm enough but the bright green grass and bouquet were so vibrant. I love the use of greenery at weddings, garland table runners and other foliage. I love flowers too, but there is something so fresh and pleasing about pure uncomplicated greenery.
I definitely wish we had more of these castles and beautiful estates in Canada, I’m jealous of wedding photographers in Europe, surrounded by centuries old buildings everywhere you turn. I guess anything gets old in time and maybe everyone wants what they don’t have. That or they are thinking, no we definitely have the best scenery.
I haven’t shot an entire wedding at Dundurn Castle before, just portrait sessions, but I would like to one day. I have seen some amazing ceremonies in the row of trees and it looks pretty magical. If you’re getting married at Dundurn Castle, maybe we can work together. I love travelling out to Hamilton/Niagara.
I really like lifestyle maternity photography compared to maternity photos in a studio, where pregnant women are wrapped in ribbons and flowers lol. Those photos are pretty, but I prefer capturing life as it really is. Just a couple enjoying life when it’s just the two of them before things really change! You never know what to expect when you have your first baby, you just know it’s going to be really different, but no amount of thinking about it can really prepare you.
I love getting a chance to celebrate happy life events with my couples; I first worked with Neena + Rob when they were married back in 2012. They are such easy going people and they are so sweet. I really enjoy building friendships and relationships with my clients over time. I have bumped into them around our neighbourhood over the years and I was so thrilled to hear that they are expecting twins!
We took these lifestyle maternity photos around Wychwood Park, which is the most beautiful place to live in the city if you ask me. If I suddenly win the lottery this is where you will find me. It’s like living in the country but you’re in the heart of Toronto. I actually live close by and will settle for walking through the area, especially in the spring.
We wandered around and took some photos to help them remember this happy time when it was still just the two of them. Neena looks amazing, I know it can get pretty intense carrying twins towards the end, so we did her session a little earlier than a single pregnancy maternity session. I actually have younger twin brothers myself, they are identical and people still have a very hard time telling them apart. Twins are a lot of fun. Best of luck you guys, you will be amazing parents!
