Today Vineyard Bride featured our Dundurn Castle wedding photography inspiration – this Jane Austen inspiration was put together with some amazing vendors and I loved the fresh spring feeling of this whole shoot.
There is something so incredibly beautiful about the vibrancy that comes in the spring. Buds on the trees are a more intense green against the earth as it slowly comes back to life. I worked with some excellent vendors to collaborate on this romantic ethereal shoot. You can see the feature here. Some of the vendors I worked with and I totally suggest you check them out yourself, Vivian Lyttle Events, Plate Occasions, Paula Lee Calligraphy, Glow Hair and Beauty, Bloom & Co., dress is designed by Maureen Patricia Bridal, and the cake is put together by Sweet Celebrations Wedding Cakes.
Spring is just glorious and it’s one of my favourite seasons, it’s hard to beat the blooming trees and the beginning of warm breezes. It’s also the start of wedding season, when things are starting to get pretty busy again. I’m usually feeling ready for it after a few slow months of winter. This was one of my first shoots with my new camera body and so far I am loving the Nikon D810, it’s a fantastic camera and I can’t wait to shoot this whole season with it.
I really enjoy shooting inspiration shoots once in a while, it’s the whole pretty side of the wedding without the stress or the emotions. On the flip side that is also what I love about weddings. I love taking detail shots when they reveal the atmosphere of a wedding, I like them when someone can look through the photos and feel what it was like to actually be at the wedding. I hope you enjoyed this Dundurn Castle wedding photography inspiration and that you will find some great vendors if you’re still looking.
These Dundurn Castle wedding photos are a few images from the Jane Austen inspiration shoot I did a few weeks ago. I love working with incredibly talented vendors to create something so beautiful. I will be able to share more later. Flowers by Bloom & Co. – hair & makeup by Glow Beauty – Styling and design by Vivian Lyttle Events – dress by Maureen Patricia Bridal – more details and vendors to follow. I suggest you check out all these amazing local vendors yourself, most of them are from the Hamilton/Niagara Region.
Dundurn Castle is a perfect spot for wedding photos, it has a magnificent lawn and row of trees that face the lake. The castle itself has beautiful architecture, I have shot here a few times and there are different elements to the property which work well for various wedding styles. The last time I was here was for an Art Gallery of Hamilton wedding, which was beautiful, another fav venue.
We shot this shoot in the spring, it was barely warm enough but the bright green grass and bouquet were so vibrant. I love the use of greenery at weddings, garland table runners and other foliage. I love flowers too, but there is something so fresh and pleasing about pure uncomplicated greenery.
I definitely wish we had more of these castles and beautiful estates in Canada, I’m jealous of wedding photographers in Europe, surrounded by centuries old buildings everywhere you turn. I guess anything gets old in time and maybe everyone wants what they don’t have. That or they are thinking, no we definitely have the best scenery.
I haven’t shot an entire wedding at Dundurn Castle before, just portrait sessions, but I would like to one day. I have seen some amazing ceremonies in the row of trees and it looks pretty magical. If you’re getting married at Dundurn Castle, maybe we can work together. I love travelling out to Hamilton/Niagara.
Matt + Chelsea’s backyard cottage wedding was completely enchanting – it was just featured on The Wedding Co – but I loved it so much I had to do my own post. I love backyard and cottage weddings to start, but it took place in Midland on Georgian Bay – which is one of my favourite places on the planet. If you are having a cottage wedding in Georgian Bay, please contact me! I love it there, and I promise it will shine though in your photos.
This wedding was lovely, Matt & Chelsea had a big bridal party filled with friends, and it was amazing they each popped their own bottles of champagne. I also love white bridesmaids dresses, the colour of Matt’s suit and Chelsea’s blush dress. Chelsea’s dress was so beautiful, her mother actually made it for her, which is incredible. One of my favourite photos from this wedding is the one where Matt & Chelsea are looking out at the tent and seeing all their friends and family gathered for the reception. You can just see the joy and delight that the entire wedding came together so beautifully.
This wedding was full of beautiful details, which isn’t about decor so much as it set such a magical tone for the evening, it was so inviting. One of my favourite touches was the ‘welcome home’ sign that they made with rope that greeted each guest as they arrived for the day. I also loved the eucalyptus alter that they built for the ceremony. I could actually list a lot of things, so I will just let you see for yourself.
After the wedding was over I drove back to honey harbour to boat back to our cottage, the boat was slick with dew (thanks a lot late September) and I slipped on the edge of the boat and fell flat on the dock. I ended up with black eye, and thankfully I put my camera bag in the boat first. Quite the adventure! Those moments come out of nowhere and it was eerily calm, I pulled myself half out of the water onto the dock and the night was completely silent and no one was around. I boated back in the darkness feeling pretty on edge, but I love the adventure that come along with my job, even when things don’t go as planned.
Today is full of good things – Eve turns one today! I thought I was going to take a nice photo of her, but she wasn’t too interested in putting on clothes, or sitting still – instead she pulled the dishwasher apart. I’m going to try again tomorrow when my husband can help and we’ll see how that goes 🙂 One thing I did accomplish was hanging a giant heavy mirror on the wall, it was slightly terrifying but much simpler than I expected – and my fear that it will come crashing down is starting to fade.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.
